Arrival dayThe canyons are twenty minutes away and best before noon. Eat after. Nobody's in a hurry on a Sunday in the desert.
Slow exitSaturday, February 6
Shotgun start, so everyone goes off at once and finishes together. Golf, cigars, and the same people you'll see that afternoon.
Enough time to shower, eat, and change before the gates open. That's why the start is early.
A full hour before the music to pick your patch of lawn, set up chairs and get food in. Bring a blanket, bring a picnic basket.

This is peak season in the Coachella Valley. Not the shoulder, not the scorch. The stretch locals keep to themselves.

Rotating cars climb from the desert floor into alpine forest in about ten minutes. It's usually snowy at the top while it's 73° at the bottom.
Book ahead on festival weekendPalm oases and waterfall trails ten minutes from downtown Palm Springs. Morning is the only time to go.

Tickets are $65. The cap is 1,800 and it sold out last year. Get your people in before it goes.
